Mold spores are everywhere in the air, however they cannot be seen by the naked eye. That is until they land on a wet surface and start to grow. Moisture in your basement is a great example of wet environment in which mold thrives.
According to the EPA:
“Indoor mold growth can and should
be prevented or controlled by controlling moisture
indoors. If there is mold growth in your home, you
must clean up the mold and fix the water problem. If
you clean up the mold, but don’t fix the water problem,
then, most likely, the mold problem will come back. “
Humidity levels in your basement can effect the growth of MOLD. Your basement/entire home should have a humidity level below a 60% . If it is above 60% there is enough moisture for MOLD to start growing.
